Despite receiving negative backlash when compared to the original Steel Magnolias, the remake was a great success for Lifetime.
More than 6.5 million viewers tuned in to the movie, the biggest audience the network has had since “Life is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story” in 2006.
“Steel Magnolias” remake starred Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott and Queen Latifah.
“We couldn’t be happier with the great response ‘Steel Magnolias’ and ‘Abducted: The Carlina White Story’ received from viewers this weekend,” said Rob Sharenow, Lifetime’s executive vice president of programming.
Hopefully this will bring more African American shows/movies to the network.
