The abandoned building down the street, the whispers about family secrets, the idea of spirits that don’t rest, these elements come straight from our communities and histories. As the genre has evolved, so has the representation. Today’s top horror films center on Black characters, Black stories, and our unique survival instincts, shifting us from the victims of the story to the heroes who fight back.
