Forever Stamp Prices Climb: USPS Hikes Rate to 78 Cents
Stamp collectors and everyday mailers, take note: the price of a first-class Forever stamp is going up—again. Starting July 13, 2025, the United States Postal Service will increase the cost from 73 cents to 78 cents.
This change, approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, is part of the USPS’s 10-year plan to ensure long-term financial stability. While five cents might seem small in the moment, it marks another step in a decade-long trend. For context, the price was just 45 cents in 2012, with regular bumps almost every year since.
But it’s not just stamps getting pricier. Domestic postcards, international postcards, and other mailing services will also see increases. USPS officials emphasize these adjustments are critical to cover rising operational costs and to support service improvements, including refining delivery standards for better efficiency.
If you’re eyeing the new designs, there’s at least a little fun in this news. Among the fresh stamp art are Spongebob Squarepants, a USPS 250th-anniversary collection, and a tribute to former First Lady Barbara Bush. It’s a nod to American culture and history—even if it costs us a little more to share a letter.
As the USPS faces modern challenges, from competition with private carriers to shifting consumer habits, these price hikes are expected to continue. For now, best advice? Stock up on Forever stamps at the old price before July 13.
Because even in the digital age, there’s something timeless about sending a handwritten note—just budget a little extra for that thoughtful touch.
