Starr Shamp: A Story of Strength, Survival & Service
Every now and then, a story comes along that stops you in your tracks. Starr Shamp’s journey is one of them.
This phenomenal woman from Omaha, Nebraska didn’t just beat the odds—she walked through fire and came out glowing. Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer just before her 28th birthday, Starr faced a battle that would stretch over seven long years. But she didn’t fold. She fought through chemotherapy, surgeries, and motherhood—and still managed to earn her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bellevue University.
Let that sink in.
While undergoing intense cancer treatments, Starr was also balancing life as a wife, a mother, and a student. Her youngest child was born prematurely during her journey. Yet, through it all, she stayed the course. Why? Because she wanted her pain to have purpose. She turned her experience into motivation and pursued a degree that would allow her to help others living with chronic illness.
Today, Starr is on the road to becoming a licensed professional counselor in Illinois. She’s proof that resilience isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a lived reality.
Her story is not just about survival; it’s about service. It’s about showing up for others even when life knocks you down. And most of all, it’s a reminder that even in our darkest seasons, purpose can still rise.
To Starr, we see you. We honor your strength. And we celebrate this incredible win with you.
Because when Black women rise—so does the world.
