Young Boy Rescued From Pond After Falling Through Thin Ice

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A child fell through some thin ice on a pond in Allen County Sunday afternoon.

The Indiana DNR says first responders were called out to the pond in Fort Wayne at around 12:30 and quickly they worked with the Fort Wayne fire department to get the child out of the freezing water.

Conservation officers say the child, a nine-year-old boy, was one of two boys playing on the frozen pond. The other boy tried helping his friend out of the water himself, but then sought out help from adults.

The boy was recovered from the water and taken to the hospital in bad shape as he was suffering from hypothermia.
