According to Dallas Morning News, the board of regents announced Wednesday that students whose families making less than $100,000 a year will not have to pay tuition or fees at any of the universities in the University of Texas System.

The project is an extension of the Promise Plus ProgramPromise Plus Program, which is a need-based financial aid plan that was passed by the board in 2022.

Beginning in fall 2025, students who get into UT academic universities like UT Dallas,UT Arlington, Stephen F. Austin will not have to pay for any of their tuition or fees.

The board said that this will help lower student debt for those in the UT System as well as lower school costs. Kevin P. Eltife, head of the Board of Regents, said that the system wants to help students pay less for college and avoid debt as much as possible.

This Thursday, the whole board will vote on the plan. A $35 million investment will go straight to campuses to pay for the initiative as part of the program’s growth. The press statement says that the money for the investment comes from endowment distributions, the Available University Fund, and other sources.
