Indianapolis-area hospitals are busy treating several students for injuries after two school buses that were carrying them collided on the city’s northeast side. This rear-end crash happened about 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning in the area of North Shadeland Avenue and Fall Creek Road in Lawrence Township. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officials say numerous high school-aged students were on-board the crashed buses.

First responders tended to those who were injured at the scene. Twenty-five students and the two drivers were taken to area hospitals for treatment for what IMPD says were non-life-threatening injuries. They were divided between Community North Hospital, Eskenazi, IU/Methodist, and St. Vincent E.86th St location. Another school bus was dispatched to the scene to take the remaining students to school.

School administrators have contacted the parents of those hurt. Multiple agencies responded to this accident and an investigation into how and why it happened is ongoing.
