Officials at an Alabama university are apologizing for a sorority T-shirt depicting racist images.  The chapter of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at Samford University had shirts printed for a formal last month showing a black man eating watermelon as well as people picking cotton. The shirt was designed to look like a vintage-style map of Alabama.

The university’s president reacted in an email sent to students and faculty. In it, he said that the shirt “repulsed” him.  The sorority has also apologized saying they failed to focus on certain images in the design. The president of the sorority’s ‘Kappa Chapter’ went on to discuss the destruction of the offensive shirts.

See the chapter’s tweeted apology below:

The sorority’s national office responded as well. See their letter HERE.

The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” …It’s 2016. How oblivious or conscientiously stupid could these sorority sisters be? Do you accept their apology? Check out a glimpse of the shirt’s design HERE and then, decide.
