An attorney for the seven women facing a defamation suit from Bill Cosby has issued a subpoena for his wife, Camille Cosby.

CNN reports Cosby’s lawyers are fighting the request just days after the entertainer, publicly accused by 50 women of sexual assault, sued the same seven women earlier this week. Lawyers representing the seven accusers (Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie) have requested Camille, who was her husband’s business manager, to be deposed in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 6.

Cosby’s lawyers claim Camille is being baited and “shamed” into discussing Cosby’s alleged assaults

Cosby lawyers added any conversations between the couple, married for 52 years, are considered a private manner.

CNN reports:

“Information that was the subject of confidential communications between Mrs. Cosby and defendant is protected by Massachusetts’ spousal disqualification rule,” they said.

Cosby countersued the women on Monday, claiming their allegations tarnished his reputation and plans for a comeback. Deals with NBC and a comedy special on Netflix were canceled in the wake of the allegations last year. He also lost many honorary degrees from universities across the country.

In his suit, Cosby denied assaulting the seven accusers and is seeking unspecified damages.

Cosby’s deposition will also take place in Springfield, where the defamation suit was filed. It is currently scheduled for February 22.
