Before you ask that potential love interest out on a date, check the SOP (standard operating procedures) at your job. Some companies do not allow employees to date. If this is your company’s policy think it over before asking your co-worker out on a date. Is this potential relationship worth losing your job over?

  • Step 2

If your company does not have a policy against co-workers dating and you and your co-worker DO start dating (lucky you!), then keep your relationship quiet; do not share it with other co-workers. Even if you are thrilled to be dating your colleague, the office isn’t the place to shout it from the rooftops!

  • Step 3

Once you and your co-worker are dating, ensure that your body language on the job doesn’t give too much away! Even though you may be having the time of your life OUTSIDE of work, remember that the office is not the appropriate place to give an adoring look or sneak a kiss.

  • Step 4

Don’t let your relationship with your co-worker interfere with your performance on the job. Don’t be tempted to call or text when no one is looking and certainly don’t contact them for personal reasons using the company Blackberry! You may be feeling all warm and fuzzy inside as you’re thinking about last night’s date, but don’t let anyone else see it. If you must daydream, do it on your break or lunch hour! If the two of you are going for dinner and drinks after work, keep that little tidbit to yourself.

  • Step 5

If the relationship ends, do not talk badly or put down your co-worker. Be mature and professional, otherwise things could escalate and go sour very quickly. You might end up losing your job or having to quit anyway and you certainly don’t want that!
