It has been a deadly weekend for pedestrian-related incidents across the city. Two of them were hit-and-runs. One victim died after getting hit at the intersection of 79th Street and Georgetown Road Sunday night. A man was killed Sunday morning near Broad Ripple High School on the north east side and the driver involved left the scene. A passerby discovered the body at the intersection of Kessler Boulevard and Crestview Avenue. Indianapolis Metro police arrested a 20-year-old woman Saturday morning on charges of OWI and leaving the scene of a crash. They say she hit a 23-year-old woman and kept driving.

Metro police aren’t just dealing with wayward motorists, they’re also dealing with shootings and other mayhem.

IMPD is investigating a shooting on the city’s west side that sent one person to the hospital. A department spokesman says a man was shot in the legs early Sunday morning. The man drove himself to a nearby auto parts store for help. IMPD says they’re still trying to piece together what happened before the shooting.

In another shooting incident the victim is in good condition after being shot in the head on the south side. Indianapolis police say a man was shot on Charing Cross Drive at around 2 a.m Sunday morning. Police have no information on a suspect.

Indianapolis is cracking down on unlicensed contractors who do work across the city. On Saturday, IMPD and code enforcement joined forces in a sting. They posted ads online listing jobs for contract work and those who responded were checked through a licensing database. If the responders weren’t licensed, they were invited to a “bait” home and fined $250. The Department of Code Enforcement requires contractors here in the city to be licensed in either general, electric, heating and cooling, or wrecking. Be warned–tell your “jack of all trades” uncle he’s going to have to go legit.

Testimony continues today in the Richmond Hill Trial. Jurors are likely hear the most emotional, descriptive testimony so far, spoken from the stand in this people’s case against alleged mastermind Mark Leonard.  It’s entering its third week. Prosecutors are expected to question the last group of Richmond Hill victims, the mothers of both Dion and Jennifer Longworth, the married couple who lost their lives in the blast and the accused’s girlfriend—homeowner Monserratte Shirley. Shirley’s house was blown up to collect the insurance money. The blast damaged or destroyed more than 80 homes and killed the Longworths.

The FBI and ATF are investigating a growing number of fires at predominantly black churches. The Southern Poverty Law Center reports fires at churches in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina all, since the deadly shootings at Emanuel AME.  At least three of the black church fires are being investigated as arson cases.

The best tennis players will gather on the legendary grass courts at the All England Club in Wimbledon today. American Serena Williams is the heavy favorite on the ladies’ side of the draw, going after her third major title of the year. Williams has already won her first round match on the slippery unworn grass in England against Russian Margarita Gasparyan 6-4, 6-1. On the men’s side, world number-one Novak Djokovic is the favorite.

Pacers forward David West is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Knicks. ESPN is reporting West is a “serious name” on New York’s board of potential free agents. West averaged 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds last season. ESPN is also reporting, just one year after his big return to Cleveland, LeBron James will face another decision because the four-time MVP has decided to decline his $21.6-million player option with the Cavaliers and enter free agency. It will be the third time in six seasons that he’s an unrestricted free agent. However, this time “King James” is expected to re-sign with the Cavs and remain in his hometown. West, we don’t know whether he’ll resign with the Pacers.

Scattered thunderstorms today then clouds with a likelihood of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. High near 75 degrees.
