The celebration has evolved from its roots that were a solemn commemoration of the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 to what most people now consider to be a drinking holiday. Margaritas anyone?…Anyone? Despite the tequilla-fuelled connection, Cinco de Mayo has its more positive side. Experts say the commercialization of Cinco de Mayo has major benefits for businesses, especially those owned by Latinos.
