Basketball fans are beginning to arrive here in Indy for the NCAA Men’s Final Four games and surrounding hoopla. As they do, city public safety officials want to ensure the safety of visitors and residents alike. The city of Indianapolis is beefing up security and say a robust security plan is in place which includes the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the fire department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, State Police, Homeland Security, TSA, FBI and the Secret Service. They say all of these law enforcement and response agencies will all be working hand-in-hand to ensure the festivities go off without a hitch. Police expect some protests in light of the state’s new Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Increased patrols and additional security cameras are in place at many of the downtown venues and at events surrounding the games. The NCAA, which is headquartered in the games host city, will have a “clear-bag” policy in place at Lucas Oil Stadium–the site of the tourney’s games. That policy will require that everyone have heir items in a transparent (see through) bag. Public Safety Director Troy Riggs says it’s going to be a successful weekend and will once again showcase why Indiana is the “Basketball Capital of the World.”
