The legislature is IN in the Indiana Statehouse with bills moving through that that should not fly under your radar. Here’s the skinny…

It’s official. The ISTEP exam given in public schools is now shortened. This, after Governor Mike Pence signed Bill 62, also known as the “ISTEP Shortening Bill.” Bill 62 calls for whacking off at least three hours from what was to be a 12-hour test for Indiana students.  When the test is shortened, common sense dictates that something has to go. Therefore, experts plan to shorten the test by cutting out social studies and reducing some of the non-multiple choice or “true/false” questions.

Also the controversial topic of abortion is back on the table at the statehouse today.  State lawmakers are expected to vote on an abortion bill. This particular bill would ban mothers from seeking abortions after 20 weeks if the reason for the procedure is due to the sex of the fetus, or because of risk factors for a mental or physical disability. Included in the bill is punishment for the doctor who violates the law by disregarding it and performing the procedure for one of those aforementioned reasons. That doctor could face disciplinary action for wrongful death or for medical malpractice.
