chevy voltSome of Indy’s “Freedom Fleet” vehicles are ready to hit the streets. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard’s announcement Tuesday follows up his 2012 pledge to convert all city vehicles to hybrids by 2025. Indianapolis is the first city in the nation to do so at such a large scale. Officials say it saves the city up to $12,000 over the life of each car.

Speaking of hybrids…An announcement is expected from General Motors also on Tuesday saying the auto giant will build more than two-thirds of the parts for its redesigned Chevy Volt here in the United States.  CEO Mary Barra plans  to make this big reveal when she speaks to the Detroit Economic Club. The redesigned 2016 gas-electric Volt hybrid goes on sale in the second half of 2015.
