Niecy Nash has made a name for herself starring in TV show after TV show and even penning a relationship book, Its Hard To Fight Naked. Next week, she’ll return in her role as Lolli Ballentine, the wife of singer turned pastor Boyce “The Voice” Balllentine, played by Cedric The Entertainer on the TV Land series The Soul Man. The third season premiere airs Wednesday, March 26 and it’s live.
“The only thing that worries me about that is the Cedric the Entertainer never knows his lines,” Nash told Skip Murphy this morning, in for Tom Joyner. “And then when he gets frustrated, he starts cussin.’ Somebody better have their finger over that little button, that’s all I’m saying. We have a special guest star, my good girlfriend Brandy Norwood is going to be on the episode. She’s playing one of Cedric’s background singers. We have a big musical guest, but I can’t tell you who that is.”
The Los Angeles native who knew she’d be a performer at age 5 after seeing Lola Falana is now wed to her second husband, Jay Tucker. She has her own Yahoo webseries Let’s Talk About Love which discusses relationships, but she has some very specific advice for women looking to find or keep a relationship.

“First of all buy my book, It’s hard to Fight Naked but for something quick, if you really want to settle into something substantial and significant, you have to date for your priorities and not for your preferences.” She says her own marriage is much better the second time around, because she’s grown and matured. But maybe also because she has her husband’s passwords and passcodes.
“Once you’re in a marriage if you’re doing it right there ain’t nothing to hide,” Nash says. “It just kind of happened. It wasn’t like we sat down and said ‘OK here’s our passwords.’ It was more like ‘Get my phone and give me such and such’s number. OK, it’s locked. OK, here’s the number. It kind of happened like that.”
And for mothers looking for love, she says it’s all about what’s right for the parent, not the kids.
“Eventually those kids got to go,” Nash says. “If it’s working for me [then that’s who I’ll be with]. You think my kids are going to let me tell them who to date and who to marry? Noooo.”
