Red Cross Helps Indiana Families
Red Cross volunteers are in overdrive helping families across Central Indiana due to the weekend’s heavy rains. Shelters are available in Muncie on Washington Street, another at New Castle Memorial Fairgrounds plus Shelbyville High School has opened its doors. Spokeswoman Ann Gregson said a lot of people are worried about Christmas and need assistance after being forced from their homes, like folks in Maples Mobile Home Park in Greenfield because of that severe flooding. In all, five inches fell in Bloomington since Friday’s downpour began and three-and-a-half inches fell here in Indianapolis, according to the National Weather Service. Standing and rushing waters left the area under a flood watch well into Monday’s morning rush hours.
Person Of Interest Sought In Double Homicide
Westfield police are looking for a man that may be connected to a double homicide. Mother and daughter
Marylyn and Kelley Erb were found beaten to death inside their Westfield home on Friday. Investigators are calling this a tragic home invasion robbery. The “person of interest” was caught on surveillance video in Lawrence, but police aren’t saying how he’s connected to the case.
Man Shot Trying To Rob Brinks Truck
A man shot several times while trying to rob an armored Brinks truck is in serious condition. IMPD says the suspect was wearing body armor when he used pepper spray on one of the guards Sunday evening outside the US 31-south Walmart located near Southport Road. The suspect tried to run, but an off-duty officer caught him.
Deadline Arrives For Healthcare Law Today
The deadline for people seeking insurance under the Affordable Care is today. The original deadline was December 15th, but was pushed back because of the troubled launch of HealthCare.Gov. The Obama administration says more than a million Americans have signed up since the website went live on October 1st. Administration officials also say they’re confident the site can handle a last-minute flood of visitors.
Charities Lagging On Donations
Charitable organizations are not receiving enough donations during this year’s holiday season. Salvation Army Major John Turner said the agency is 80-thousand dollars behind the amount received last year. Many people who donate are staying home due to snowstorms, bitter cold temperatures and other wet weather. Latasha Medley at Mid North Food Pantry said, “We’re barely making it.” Anyone wishing to donate can do so by texting HOOSIER to the number 80888.
Target CEO Apologizes For Data Breach
Gregg Steinhafel is apologizing to customers for the data breach at Target stores in Indiana and across the nation. The CEO said the problem has been eliminated and reassures shoppers they will not be responsible for any credit or debit card fraud. Steinhafel said, “Our guests’ trust is our top priority at Target and we are committed to making this right.”
Cleveland Hero Gets Book Deal
The man who helped free three kidnapped women in Cleveland has a book deal. Charles Ramsey made headlines in May when he helped Amanda Berry out of the home of kidnapper Ariel Castro where she and two other women had been held captive for years. The publisher says Ramsey’s memoir will include a detailed account of the day of the rescue and his description of living next door to Castro unaware of the women’s captivity in that house.
Colts Beat Kansas City
The Colts are on a winning streak. They beat the Chiefs Sunday 23-to-7 at Arrowhead Stadium. Donald Brown ran for
79 yards and a touchdown while catching another score in the victory. The Colts have won five out their last six games against Kansas City. The Colts take on the Jaguars next.
Pacers Beat The Celtics
The Pacers are celebrating their win over the Boston Celtics and former Butler coach Brad Stevens. They won Sunday at home in Bankers Life Fieldhouse 106-to-79. Lance Stephenson recorded his third triple-double of the season during the game. The Pacers take on Brooklyn on the road tonight.
