Pope Francis Is “Time” Magazine’s Person Of The Year

“Time” magazine has announced Pope Francis early Wednesday morning as their 2013 Person of the Year.  Credited for changing the tone and perception of the Catholic Church, the weekly newsmagazine handed the Pope the top honor.  “Time” says “the leader of the Catholic Church has become a new voice of conscience.”  The Pontiff made headlines this year when he said that Catholics have concentrated on condemning abortion, contraception and homosexual acts while neglecting the greater need for tenderness, mercy and compassion. Pope Francis’ papacy began in March when he succeeded Pope Benedict. Benedict unexpectedly stepped down in February citing his advanced age.

NSA leaker and international fugitive Edward Snowden earned the runner up spot.
