They have a lot in common. Both attended Syracuse University, both were Miss New York and both went on to be barrier breaking beauty queens. Nina Davuluri met Vanessa Williams.
The ladies meet Wednesday night in New York (of course) in Williams’ dressing room after her play, “The Trip to Bountiful”
Williams says, “She is young enough that she could be my daughter. She’s a lovely, smart and talented woman,” she said. “She will be a great spokesperson for Indian Americans in the U.S.”
Davuluri who has received racist attacks as Williams in 84 is taking it all in stride. “I have to rise above that. I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
