Usher says his son his alive today thanks to a couple of heroes.

On Monday, the R&B star’s 5-year-old boy, Usher Raymond V, got his arm stuck while trying to retrieve a toy from a pool drain at the singer’s home. After a maid and the boy’s aunt failed to free him, two male employees working inside the house were able to get him loose. He was given CPR and taken to an Atlanta-area hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday, Usher released a statement on his website thanking his family and friends for support:

“I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”

Usher and his ex-wife, Tameka Foster, are parents to both Usher Raymond V, and Naviyd Ely Raymond, 4. Usher has primary custody of their children. According to ETonline, Foster has requested an emergency hearing to regain primary custody of the two children.

Last year, Foster’s other son Kile Glover died after being hit by a jet ski.
