Shapiro’s Closing Carmel Location

Shapiro’s Deli has announced that it will close it’s 12-year-old Carmel location on June 17.

The restaurant on Rangeline Road was one of the first tenants of the Carmel City Center.

The city said the deli had fallen behind in its rent payments. The flagship location in downtown Indianapolis and the Indianapolis International Airport location will not be affected.

 

Grandfather Facing Neglect Charges After Leaving Child in Car

A grandfather accused of leaving a three-year-old unattended in a hot car is facing neglect charges.  Police say the girl was spotted sleeping in the car on Tuesday in the Kroger parking lot on East Tenth Street.  Marvin Samples told officers he ran into the store to grab a few items and didn’t want to wake her.

 

60 Roosters Taken From Indiana Cockfighting Operation

A southern Indiana man faces charges after investigators seized more than 60 roosters used in a cockfighting operation in Spencer, Indiana.

26-year-old Jeffrey Russell Pierce was charged Wednesday with possessing fighting animals, and promoting an animal fighting contest.

Officials found dead roosters and birds requiring medical attention without access to water.

Pierce was being held at the Owen County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

 

Carbon Motors Officially Not Coming to Indiana

Carbon Motors is filing for Chapter Seven bankruptcy.  The company had hoped to open a high-tech police car plant at the vacant Visteon facility in Connersville, but the U.S. Department of Energy rejected their bid for a loan to finance the start of production.

According to court documents, the company has more than 21-million-dollars in liabilities and only around 18-thousand-dollars in assets.
