We told you yesterday that Robin Roberts took medical leave at Good Morning America one day earlier than she announced. She wanted to visit her ailing mother before getting treatment for bone marrow transplant.

The morning show host made it to her Mississippi home in time before her mother,Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, died  Thursday night. She was 88.

“There’s a point that really resonates with me when I think about this time of my life. Life provides losses and heartbreak for all of us, but the greatest tragedy is to have the experience and miss the meaning,” Roberts said Thursday. “I am determined not to miss that meaning, because through it I have discovered that I have been given many gifts, gifts that will carry me through this difficult time.”

CNN reports, “Robin has been diagnosed with MDS, a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow. Her sister, Sally-Ann, is a match.”

She starts treatment next week. Oprah, Chris Rock & Diane Sawyer are just some of the all-stars subbing for Robin until she returns.

Prayer and condolences for Robin, her family and close ones.
