Occupy Wall Street is now entering its third month, and black America has yet to show up. Oh, there are sprinkles of color here and there in the many protests and encampments scattered around the country. But, in large measure, Occupy is a white thing.

It has been noted that the absence of black involvement is not only regrettable but confounding, given that, whenever the public suffers, African-Americans’ share of the pain is in multiples. And no one needs to rehash all the ways that the American public is suffering right now, which means that our community is being hit harder than usual.
