Not only is he opening for Mary J. Blige on her upcoming tour, but veteran crooner El DeBarge is headed out on his own headlining trek later this fall to promote his new album “Second Chance,” his first release in 16 years.

DeBarge’s outing begins Oct. 6 at S.O.B.’s in New York and sees the three-octave singer playing six additional dates before wrapping Oct. 30 in Birmingham, Ala.

“Second Chance,” DeBarge’s current single and his album’s title track, reached No. 19 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart this week, and the singer recently hit the studio with veteran hit songwriter Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and reggae singer Mishka to record a new track for the set, titled “When I See You.”

The album will also feature the club track “Switch Up the Formats” with 50 Cent, the sexy ballad “Lay With You” with Faith Evans and the uptempo “Five Seconds” with rapper Fabolous.’
