Before there was Nicki, Cardi, or Megan, there was Roxanne Shanté—a fearless teen who shook up the rap game at just 14 years old with her iconic track Roxanne’s Revenge. She went toe-to-toe with the biggest names in hip-hop, proving that women had a place in battle rap and beyond. Her sharp lyricism, confidence, and undeniable skills opened doors for generations of female MCs.

But sis didn’t stop there. Today, Shanté continues to shape the culture, mentoring up-and-coming artists and keeping the essence of hip-hop alive as a host on SiriusXM’s Rock The Bells Radio. She’s still spitting knowledge, still breaking barriers, and still commanding respect.

This Grammy honor is long overdue but so well deserved. Roxanne Shanté’s impact on hip-hop is legendary, and this award cements her place as a true pioneer of the culture.
