TikTok Announced Shutting Down A Part of It’s Music Platform

TikTok has announced it will shut down its subscription streaming service, TikTok Music, at the end of November 2024 to focus on its “Add to Music App” feature. TikTok Music, currently available in countries like Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico, allowed users to stream music directly through the app. However, the company now plans to pivot toward enhancing its music discovery and sharing capabilities. The “Add to Music App” feature, which launched in November 2023, has already gained significant traction, enabling users to save and share viral tracks they discover on TikTok with just a few clicks.

This strategic shift will make it easier for users to download and share their favorite songs from TikTok, increasing engagement with partner streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and others. According to TikTok’s global head of music business development, Ole Obermann, this move aims to “further TikTok’s role in driving even greater music listening and value on music streaming services, for the benefit of artists, songwriters, and the industry.”

The “Add to Music App” feature has already facilitated millions of track saves to playlists on various music platforms, signaling that TikTok remains a powerful force in music discovery. By focusing on this feature, TikTok hopes to simplify how users interact with music on the app, enhancing their overall experience and allowing them to connect more deeply with the artists they love. As TikTok Music winds down on November 28, fans can expect a smoother, more integrated experience in how they discover and share music on the platform.
