A new report alleges that Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has received a bevy of racist death threats from critics who are riled up over her handling of the Jussie Smollett case.

“We can confirm that the State’s Attorney has received threats to her personal safety and security, a number of which have contained racially charged language,” Foxx’s chief of staff, Jennifer Ballard Croft, told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The report goes on to say that Foxx’s office has received an influx of letters and calls in relation to the Smollett case, using racist tones in their criticism.

“African Americans need to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their own DAMN DECISIONS & STOP TRYING TO PLAY THE RACE CARD on every damn situation that arises,” one of the emails obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times reads. “LET ME BE CLEAR: I have no pity for African American’s [sic] WHO MAKE S— UP TO PUSH SOCIAL JUSTICE.”

The prosecutor has received three alarming letters, which caused her office to follow the required protocol in her protection and safety. According to a political consultant close to Foxx who asked not to be named, the letters seem to have come from “white supremacists.”

According to Ballard Croft, the alarming messages have been forwarded to the state’s attorney’s office’s Investigations Bureau and Executive Protection Unit. Foxx has also been assigned an around the clock security detail in order to prevent an attack.

Last month Foxx again made national headlines after she decided to not pursue criminal charges against Empire actor Jussie Smollett. The decision was in the wake of the ongoing investigation into an alleged hate crime where the actor says he was the victim of a vicious attack.

Foxx’s office dropped all 16 counts against the actor, sparking deep discord between Foxx and local law enforcement in Chicago who claimed the actor staged the whole incident.

Last week, published text messages showed Foxx did not move forward with the charges because she felt they were excessive. She recused herself from the case because she had been in contact with Smollett’s family before police announced they believed Smollett had a hand in the coordination of the attack.

She vowed to remain silent on the case after two deputy staff member’s stepped down, only one of them directly worked on the Smollett investigation. Both denied that the decision to leave was in regards to the investigation.
