2016 VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens

The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens awards show honored the iconic female group Salt-N-Pepa comprised of Cheryl JamesSanda Denton, and Deidra Roper for the incredible impact they have had on the last three decades of music.

While the group’s tribute has gotten mostly mixed reviews from fans on Twitter, their acceptance speech was truly inspirational.

Despite the lack of flair in the tribute, Salt-N-Pepa took the microphones and did what they have done for thirty years and brought the audience to their feet. They didn’t do it with their classic hits, however, but with inspirational, and humbling words of gratitude.

“The chemistry between the friendship translated into the music,” the group said as they discussed their unbelievable rise to stardom. The trio then went into how important it is for women to continue to express themselves through the art of hip-hop saying that even though it is still a man’s game, the female voice is a necessary ingredient to a healthy industry. “I hope seeing us tonight inspires girls and young women to be bold enough to express themselves everyday,” they said.

In a night that honored the women of hip-hop the group that served as inspiration for so many women after them shined bright as always.
