The engineer of the Amtrak train that derailed in Philadelphia, killing seven and injuring 200, has no recollection of the accident, ABC 7 reports.

Brandon Bostian, 32, has been cooperating with the police and even handed over his phone and a blood sample Wednesday. Bostian, a New York resident, told police he has no medical conditions and wasn’t under the influence of any drugs when the train derailed Tuesday night. After speaking with investigators, he stated that he didn’t remember anything before the crash. What he does remember is looking for his phone to call 911 shortly after the train derailed. Says ABC 7:

Bostian was “very distraught” to learn of the loss of life in the crash, the attorney said, adding Bostian only remembers driving the train to the crash area generally, then later getting tossed around, coming to, finding his bag and his cell phone, and dialing 911.

Described as Passenger Engineer at Amtrak on his LinkedIn page, Bostian has been employed with the company for nearly nine years. He became an engineer in 2010 after working as a passenger conductor.

As far as speed goes in the accident, a review of the data recorder revealed the train was going 106 mph three seconds before the accident occurred, double the limit required for the curve. There is also a 70 mph limit for regional trains before turning onto the upcoming curve. While Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has relayed the information to reporters, Robert Sumwalt of the National Transportation Safety Board hasn’t confirmed the data and hasn’t spoken to Bostian just yet.

“You’re not going to hear the NTSB making comments like that. We want to get the facts before we start making judgments,” Sumwalt told CNN. “This person has gone through a very traumatic event and we want to give him the opportunity to convalesce for a day or so before we interview him.”

The train was also lacking updated technology that prevents accidents. Titled “Positive Train Control,” the system was installed on some of the rail networks of the Northeast Corridor to automatically slow or stop trains that are over the speed limit. Train No. 188 did not have the new technology installed.

Video was released of the crash this week. A nearby security camera shows the moment the train derailed.

Officials are worried the death toll could rise from seven, since there are just over a dozen more people missing. Some of the identified victims include Derrick Griffith, a dean of student affairs for City University of New York Medgar Evers College, Abid Gilani, a senior vice president in the Hospitality Finance Group for Wells Fargo in New York City, Jim Gaines, an AP employee; Rachel Jacobs, a tech CEO; and Justin Zemser, a Navy midshipman.

The family of Bob Gildersleeve, who is still missing, has turned to social media for help in finding their father.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
