We’re still keeping our eye on a developing story out of Ferguson Missouri where during demonstrations outside the Ferguson Police Station last night two St. Louis-area police officers were shot. Their injuries are being described as serious. The search is on this morning for the shooter…shots reportedly did not come from the crowd assembled  to demand more city officials step down but instead from further away over demonstrator’s heads. Both are in the hospital recovering this morning. This happened just hours after Ferguson Missouri Police Chief Tom Jackson resigned in the wake of a Justice Department report that finds extreme racism in his department

Here at home…Metro police are looking into an overnight shooting of two people on the northwest side of the city.  Police say the victims were shot several times while sitting in a car on North Elmira Street just after one o’clock this morning. No word on their condition or about a possible suspect.

Four suspects are in custody in connection to a shooting involving an Indianapolis police officer.  Police say this happened after officers were called to a report of a burglary yesterday afternoon.  They say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the officer as they were fleeing in a getaway car.  Shots were fired but no one was hit.  The suspects were followed to Carmel Creek Apartments where they were each arrested.

A woman in Lawrence is in custody accused in a serious hit-and-run last month. Police say Jessica Livengood turned herself into the Marion County processing center yesterday.  Police say she hit and seriously injured a man crossing Pendleton Pike and kept driving. She faces a sentence of six months to two-and-a-half years in prison.

A proposal to give an extra $4.7 million to IMPD is heading to the City County Council.  The request approved in committee yesterday gives police extra money for new cars, improvements at the academy and upgrades at the police firing range.  Republican council member Aaron Freeman voted against it saying he’d prefer having it in the budget process next fall.

Hoosiers are being encouraged to drink an extra glass of water today in honor of World Kidney Day.  You’re asked to give one too.  Organizers say sharing a glass of water is a good way to remind us that kidneys are vital organs and should be taken care of.  Chronic Kidney Disease is predicted to increase by 17-percent over the next decade.
