When a black patron visits a swanky upscale eatery in the Geist neighborhood of Indianapolis, one expects the service to be upscale and accommodating for every hard-earned dollar spent. However, that is not what happened at Bella Vita Restaurant, and the difference in service and treatment of that black patron compared to other Caucasian patrons is at the heart of a complaint filed against them–a complaint that the Indiana Civil Rights Commission has ruled there is “probable cause to believe that an unlawful discriminatory practice occurred in violation of the Indiana Civil Rights Law.”

This is the story of what happened when a black patron inquired about the status of her food order after waiting for an unreasonable amount of time and watching others be served at Bella Vita Restaurant in late July.  To read more about what happened and how the Commission has responded to that incident, click HERE for AM-1310 The Light’s story by Amos Brown.
