Kool & The Gang is getting recognized for their lengthy and influential career. The group was honored with the Legend Award at the annual Soul Train Awards, which were taped Friday in Las Vegas. In his acceptance, founding member Robert “Kool” Bell acknowledged that it hasn’t been easy to log a 50-year career. Billboard.com says he told the crowd it’s “harder to keep a band together than it is to make a hit record.” Robert and bandmates Ronald Bell, George Brown, and Dennis Thomas also expressed their gratitude to the fans for all their support over the decades. In addition, Kool & The Gang received a musical salute featuring Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, Mase, and others.

Wendy Williams served as the host of the 2014 Soul Train Awards, The event will air on BET and Centric on November 30th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
