Traffic is going to be affected by the 34th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade today. The route heads south Monday morning on Pennsylvania Street, west on Ohio Street, and north on Meridian Street before
ending at East Vermont Street. Also, a free block party festival will take place on Vermont Street featuring food, live music, and a beer garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you’re partaking in the shamrock-filled festivities, take heed. Don’t drink and drive. Indiana State Police have ramped up their patrols for drunk drivers. They will continue to be on high-alert for libation-filled motorists every weekend for the rest of the month to curb crashes and fatalities on the roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports alcohol-related crashes accounted for 20-percent of Indiana’s 779 traffic fatalities in 2012.
