Winter Storm Watch In Effect

A winter storm watch is in effect for Indianapolis. The National Weather Service says sleet will turn to snow late tonight. Accumulation could be up to four-inches in some areas. Otherwise—expect rain today as the temperatures fall and the sleet to begin around 5 p.m.

Seventh Homicide In Four Days

IMPD is investigating the city’s seventh homicide in the past four-days.  Officials say a man was shot to death Wednesday in the parking lot of the Wyckford Commons Apartments.  There have been 112 homicides so far this year in Indianapolis, up about 15-percent from last year.

 

A SWAT Incident Ended Peacefully

An Indy Metro SWAT team has ended an incident without injury Thursday morning. IMPD was called to the 5000 block of Clarkson Drive on the report of shots fired Wednesday night. Upon arrival, they found a white male on the side of a house holding some type of shotgun or rifle. Police called for the suspect to drop the weapon and when he didn’t, he ran inside the house yelling something incoherent at officers. SWAT was called in. When they were unable to reach him to negotiate, SWAT fired chemicals into the home which forced the suspect to give up. Detectives are beginning their investigation into what led up to this incident and no charges have been filed yet.

Fast Food Rallies Planned Today

Fast food workers are planning to rally or go on strike in 200 cities across the nation, including here in Indy on Thursday. Organizers say the move is being made to increase pay and have a right to unionize. Industry leaders say the change will raise prices, reduce staffs and restrict growth. One of the rallies here in Indy will be held at McDonald’s at 16th and Meridian Streets. Others will happen in Bloomington and Greenfield.

Concurrent Trials Sought For Richmond Hill Suspects

The three suspects in the Richmond Hill explosion could be tried at the same time. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is requesting what’s known as concurrent jury trials, which means there would be three separate juries to hear the evidence at the same time in the same courtroom. A decision is expected after December 27th.

Indiana Governor to Unveil 2014 Legislative Agenda

Governor Mike Pence will speak at a  legislative conference in downtown Indy today. During his Noontime speech, he’s expected to unveil the 2014 legislative agenda.  The conference is going on at the Sagamore Ballroom in the Convention Center.

Nativity Scene Statues Stolen

An Indianapolis family is missing items from a holiday tradition.  James Bledsoe said he noticed statues of Mary and the baby Jesus were stolen from his yard overnight.  Bledsoe said it seems senseless that anyone calling themselves a Christian would steal figures from a Nativity scene.

Lawmakers Working Quietly on Bi-Partisan Federal Budget

A budget deal is taking shape on Capitol Hill. Republican Representative Paul Ryan and Democratic Senator Patty Murray are quietly working out the details of a possible two-year budget agreement. The deadline for lawmakers to come up with a budget is December 13th and both sides are said to be optimistic they can get a deal done before then.

Pacers Beat Utah Jazz

The Indiana Pacers are celebrating their win over Utah. They beat the Jazz Wednesday night 95-to-86. The Pacers play San Antonio on Saturday.
