Indiana Supreme Court continuing to hear challenges to state office

(Indianapolis)  —  The Indiana Supreme Court will allow more briefs to be filed today over who should replace former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White. White was removed from office last month after being found guilty of six felonies relating to voter fraud.  Justices began hearing arguments yesterday for and against White’s removal. Democrat Vop Osili, who lost to White in 2010, wants the office but says he will abide by the court’s ruling.

Grandfather found guilty of abusing three boys

(Phoenix, AZ)  —  A jury has found an Indiana man guilty of child abuse for forcing his grandsons on 15 mile hikes in the Grand Canyon without food or water. Christopher Alan Carlson, 45, was convicted of six charges of child abuse stemming from the hikes on Aug. 15 and Aug. 28, with the boys, ages  8, 9 and 12. The children claimed they were deprived of food and water for days and were beaten, choked or kicked if they complained to Carlson about being sick or fell down.  Carlson says the boys were overweight and he was helping to get them in shape. He is scheduled for sentencing on June 1st and could receive life in prison.

Officer Hurt In Crash

(Indianapolis, IN)  —  An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer is receiving treatment for a possible head injury along with cuts and bruises after a crash last night. Officials said the incident  happened around 8 p.m. at the intersection of North Rural Street and East New York Street  The on-duty officer collided with a gray Ford Grand Marquis at the intersection enroute to help another officer.  The driver of the Grand Marquis, Fredrick Gibson, 25,  had an outstanding warrant and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Tax Preparer Accused Of Falsifying Returns

(Indianapolis)  —  The Internal Revenue Service is investigating a local tax preparer for allegedly falsifying returns.  WRTV-TV Channel 6 is reporting that several Prime Time Tax Service clients have found their returns were tampered with to increase their refunds and then were charged up to $1000 dollars in tax preparation fees once  their refund check arrived at the business.  One woman said she found her return included college tax credits of $1900 dollars which  doubled her refund but said her kids are not old enough to attend college.

Church volunteer accused of child molestation

(Crawfordsville)  —  A man who worked with a church youth ministry program is facing five felony charges of child molestation this morning.  Jordan Roseboom, 24, is a volunteer at the Rock Point Baptist Church. A senior pastor there says a parent approached him about the alledged activity earlier this week. The pastor in turn, questioned Roseboom who reportedly admitted to touching the boys all under the age of 14. Police say it does not appear that any of the alleged crimes happened at the church or during any church activities. Roseboom was not an employee  and according to church officials did not have a criminal history and his background check came back clean. A Montgomery County judge had set his bail at $6,000, but he was later released on bond.
