Measles outbreak cancels school activities
(Noblesville) — The recent measles outbreak caused Noblesville Schools to call off all evening activities last night. So far, 13 cases of measles have been confirmed in central Indiana, all stemming from someone with the illness visiting Super Bowl Village two days before the Super Bowl 46 on February 5. About 1% of Noblesville students have not been vaccinated against measles. Any students who have not been vaccinated against measles will not be allowed to attend classes at any Noblesville school until further notice. The district made the drastic move yesterday at the direction of the Hamilton County Health Department due to the outbreak of the illness in the area. There are five students with a religious exemption to vaccines on file in the district, and they are banned from going to school for the time being.
“Sports Illustrated” says Manning had additional surgery
(Indianapolis, ) — “Sports Illustrated” is reporting today that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had four, not three surgeries for his neck. The article cites unnamed NFL sources as saying Colts management believes Manning will need more surgery and maybe even another fusion even if he returns to the field this fall. The publication says the newly-discovered surgery was done between the times Manning was under the knife between May 23 and September 9, 2011. The article goes on to say the star quarterback was lobbying hard to show the team he could play in red zone situations in the final two games of the season, but a team doctor advised against it.
Prosecutors requesting another DNA sample
(Indianapolis) — Prosecutors want a DNA sample from former IMPD Officer David Bisard as they continue preparing their case against him. Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says the sample would be to prove that two vials of blood drawn from Bisard after a fatal accident in August 2010 are in fact Bisard’s in case the question comes up during trial. The former officer is facing reckless homicide and other charges after he slammed his squad car into two motorcycles at an intersection, killing one person and badly injuring two others. Bisard’s blood-alcohol level at the time was point-one-nine, nearly three-times the legal limit.
Mourdock questions opponent’s residency
(Indianapolis) — Indiana State Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock is accusing Senator Richard Lugar of misinformation, saying Lugar is not an Indiana resident. Backed by the Tea Party, Mourdock is challenging Lugar for the Republican nomination. Mourdock made the accusations while standing in front of a home the senator lists as his legal residence in the 32-hundred block of Highwoods Court in Indianapolis, which Lugar sold in 1977. Lugar has kept that as his legal residence because it was the last place he lived in the state.
