Los Angeles police say Don Cornelius, creator of the iconic, long-running TV dance show “Soul Train,” shot himself to death Wednesday morning at his home. Officers responding to a report of a shooting found the 75-year-old at his Mulholland Drive home at around 4 a.m.

A coroner says Cornelius was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The man who changed the face of television with the widely-popular “Soul Train,” was rumored to have been suffering from depression. “Soul Train” began in Chicago as a local program in 1970 and aired nationally from 1971 to 2006.
