Missing Anderson Man Found Dead Near Retention Pond

ANDERSON, Ind.–A missing Anderson man was found dead Friday night.
37-year-old Jeremy Smith was reported missing to Anderson Police on July 1. After looking around his home and executing multiple search warrants, a Silver Alert was issued through Indiana State Police on July 10.
On Friday, July 11, police say they got tips from the community about Smith’s whereabouts. They believed he might be in the 2700 block of West 38th Street.
“With the assistance of drone technology and nearby agencies, a deceased individual was located in that area, near a retention pond. The Madison County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and later confirmed that the identity of the deceased was Jeremy Smith. Proper notifications were made to his family, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death in the coming days. The investigation is still ongoing at this time,” said Anderson Police Major Caleb McKnight in a Saturday afternoon press release.
