She the People follows Antoinette Dunkerson (Terri J. Vaughn), Mississippi’s first Black lieutenant governor, as she navigates the challenges of politics and family life under a condescending governor. Jo Marie Payton portrays Cleo Dunkerson, Antoinette’s mother, adding depth to the show’s exploration of familial dynamics.
The series blends humor with social commentary, addressing issues of sexism, political empowerment, and the complexities of public life. Co-created by Tyler Perry and Niya Palmer, with executive production by former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, the show promises a fresh take on political comedy.
