The SXSW festival will be celebrating their 30th year in a major way. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will serve as keynote speakers at the festival, which is slated to take place mid-March. President Obama will speak with Evan Smith, CEO & Editor in Chief of The Texas Tribune, to discuss the state of civic engagement in this day and age. They will focus on how technology can help overcome global issues. At a separate SXSW event, FLOTUS will talk about her Let Girls Learn initiative, which was designed to provide more girls with an adequate education, globally. “I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate our event’s 30th year than to welcome both the President and First Lady to SXSW,” said co-founder of the festival, Roland Swenson. “As each new generation comes up at SXSW they look for ways they can be of service, and it’s important to reflect and support that message. Katt Williams Accused of Robbing Women at Gunpoint

Just one day after he was apprehended on a battery charge, comedian Katt Williams is being accused of another crime. According to reports, five Atlanta women say Williams and almost 15 other people robbed them at gunpoint. Williams and his entourage allegedly threatened the women with guns and stole their phones. According to their attorney, Loletha Hale, the group flashed gang signs during the robbery. On Monday, Williams was arrested on a battery charge after getting into an altercation with an employee at a Georgia store. The women and their lawyer spoke at a press conference yesterday along with the Atlanta Police Department. Read more.


President Obama Reportedly Eyeing Iowa Judge for Supreme Court Seat

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding who will take the Supreme Court seat of the late Justice Antonin Scalia. According to reports, President Obama is considering Jane L. Kelly, who serves as a federal appellate judge in Iowa. The FBI has been reportedly conducting interviews with Kelly. It’s a peculiar situation because Iowa senator Charles E. Grassley wants to block President Obama from finding someone to fill the spot. President Obama is slated to make his decision within the next few weeks. Jazz Singer Sarah Vaughan to be Honored with Forever Stamp

Sarah Vaughan, a notable jazz singer, will be honored by the US Postal Service at the end of March with a ‘forever stamp.’ The stamp will include an image of an oil painting of the Newark songstress that was inspired by a 1955 photograph of her performing. Vaughan is best known for her songs “My Funny Valentine,” “Misty,” and “Lullaby of Birdland.” She died in 1990 at the age of 66. The stamp dedication ceremony will take place in her hometown at the Sarah Vaughan Concert Hall on March 29. Read more.
