Obama’s Plan For Immigration Reform Blocked By Court Of Appeals

The President’s proposed new immigration procedures have been blocked by the 5th Circuit Court Of Appeals. The program would have allowed over 4 million “otherwise removable undocumented immigrants to be eligible for work authorization and associated benefits.” The courts felt Obama was attempting to overstep his boundaries and disregard the limits to his executive power. Ferguson Police Aim To Regain Public Trust In New Community Program

Ferguson’s Police Department has pledged to spend more time walking around neighborhoods and speaking with residents. Its goal is to reduce tension within a community that is now infamous for police brutality and violence. “I think we are on the right track,” Interim Police Chief Andre Anderson said. “The reality is that the police department can’t do it alone.” [HelloBeautiful]

‘The Mountaintop’ Playwright Katori Hall Responds To Casting Of A White Actor To Play MLK

Playwright Katori Hall has spoken out with a powerful op-ed reacting to Director Michael Oatman’s decision to enlist a White actor to play Martin Luther King, Jr. in his amateur production of Hall’s play, The Mountaintop. Robert Branch was the actor playing MLK while Camila Christian played the maid that the civil rights activist was conversing with at the Lorraine Motel the night before his assassination. Supreme Court Justifies Police Shootings In Brutality Cases

A Texas Public Safety Trooper, Chadrin Mullenix was granted immunity by the Supreme Court after shooting a motorist, Israel Leija in the midst of a high speed chase. The police had set up spikes to disable the suspects car however, Mullenix who wasn’t involved in the chase, nor was he trained for that level of duty, took it upon himself to shoot at Israel six times. Veterans With PTSD Are Being Incarcerated At An Alarming Rate

There may be a correlation between military service and criminal behavior. Approximately 300 of the 3,000 inmates on death row are veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) many of whom failed to receive proper mental care. New York Police Commissioner Says ‘Stop Feeding The Homeless’

Apparently, residents of New York are bothered by the homeless people scattered throughout the city. The response from NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton was to discourage residents from giving to those begging in the streets. “My best advice to the citizens of New York City: If this is so upsetting to you, don’t give. One of the quickest ways to get rid of them is not to give to them” he said. [New York Post]
