Ben Carson is starting to make me appreciate the political genius of Herman Cain.

Carson may be a brain surgeon, but unless you’re talking about neurosurgery, he has nothing to offer besides banality, sensationalism, and overall mindlessness. Naturally, this makes him a hot commodity amongst a noted sect (re: the craziest) of conservatives.

In a new GQ profile about the Republican presidential contender, aptly entitled “What If Sarah Palin Were a Brain Surgeon?,” Carson continues to speak as if he douses his left foot in Sriracha before shoving it in his mouth. Carson is described as “the Tea Party’s great White House hope—and the GOP’s worst nightmare.”

No, really, can we just bring Herman Cain back? I’ll take pizza over Dr. Empty and Evil.

Writer Jason Zengerle captures a moment between Carson’s business manager and “unofficial image-maker and political advisor,” conservative pundit Armstrong Williams in which Carson likens President Obama to a “psychopath.” Seeing Obama on television, Williams says to Carson, “He looks good. He looks clean. Shirt’s white. The tie. He looks elegant.” In response, Carson is described as grumbling in response, “Like most psychopaths. That’s why they’re successful. That’s the way they look. They all look great.”

If this is Williams as an “image-maker,” from this day forward, he shall be known as the political equivalent of Chris Brown’s publicist.

The only thing worse about Carson’s statement besides the obvious – it’s inflammatory not to mention dead wrong – is that Williams and others hold the belief that this will only strengthen Carson’s political power. Of Carson, Williams explains to GQ, “He’s like a messenger. He might not be king, but he will have the ear of the king.”

Should he end up having “the ear of the king,” I hope it’s an ear that has extremely limited functionality.

Later in the profile comes Carson’s likening of the protestors in Ferguson to Islamists fighters in the Syrian civil war. During a trip to Israel, Carson discussed the war with a lieutenant colonel. In that conversation, Carson claimed most of the fighters came from Morocco and Europe and proceeded to say, “It’s just like the troublemakers in Ferguson.”

This man compared the president of the United States to a psychopath and likened majorly peaceful protesters to people fighting in an actual civil war. And we still have several months of this. It’s already clear that Carson cares not about the legacy he established years ago and is more concerned with cashing in on his remixed celebrity. If that reality were not grating enough, I actually agree with Williams when he says of Carson, “He is a hot property. His brand is huge right now.”

Correct, but I hope all the sane people out there writing join me in making this imbecile, racist appeasing con artist their personal pinata until he becomes as passe as Herman Cain and Alan Keyes before him.
