kawhi-leonard-getty Who knows what pre-game speech the Spurs had,  how they felt about their game 2 lost to the Heat or how they prepared for game 3. Whatever they did before game 3 translated into a record-setting night with the Spurs shooting the lights out all led by Kawhi Leonard career-high 29 points. Going into the halftime the Spurs shot a record-setting  75.8 percent from the field beating down the champs 111-92 in their victory on Tuesday, taking a series lead 2 to 1 against the Heat.

The Spurs started the game making 19 of  their first 21 shots and finished the half 25 for 33, the best shooting half since the Orlando Magic did it against the Lakers in 2009 Finals when they shot 75 percent by halftime. The Spurs lead as much as 25 point but the Heat challenged the Spurs for a moment when they cut the lead to 7 but it wasn’t enough.

In the opening quarter the Spurs shot 13 for 15 and led 41-25 after one-quarter. Continuing the trend of the first quarter the Spurs made their first six shots bringing the lead up to 55-30.  In the first two games of the Finals Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points. However, the forward felt his outside shot working and made his first six shots finishing the game 10 for 13 from the field.

The NBA has gone away with its 2-3-2 format for the NBA Finals, where the lower seed gets to play three consecutive games at home. If the Spurs can pull off another victory on Thursday they can close out the series in San Antonio on Sunday.  We can’t jump to conclusions as of yet as, for the second straight time in the Finals, the Heat find themselves down in the NBA Finals 2-1 after losing game 3, but we all know the outcome of last year’s finals the Heat won in 7 games.
