A third generation Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer, who followed in his dad and granddad’s footsteps as a homicide detective has created a new non-profit foundation to help try to reduce crime and turn young people’s attitudes around.  Harry Dunn III appeared on Afternoons with Amos to talk about his new effort the HIM By HER Foundation.  HIM by HER stands for Helping Improve Mankind By Healing Every Race. Dunn told Amos and listeners that he created the foundation out of the great need to radically change the surge of violence that began several years ago here in Indianapolis. Dunn said that he’s worked the past three years on this foundation project that he believes will address the needs of the community and that of our youth. With a target data of 2015, HIM by HER would be modeled after Junior Achievement’s Enterprise City model. In HIM by HER, says Dunn,  juveniles and young adults learn valuable lessons ranging from intensive interviewing role-playing, civics, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. Initial training areas include HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Lawn Care, Barbering & Cosmetology, Carpentry, Bricklaying, and Roofing as an example. Young people would participate in the program multiple for shorter or extended periods of time.
