Home Invasion Suspects Sought
A Fishers couple woke up overnight to a gun being pointed at their heads. Home invaders have struck again, this time in the 10-thousand block of Adam Court around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. It appears that the would-be robbers fled without taking anything from the home and Fishers police with their K-9s are searching for them. The couple was unharmed but there seems to be evidence that the suspects may have broken into and ransacked cars on the same block as well.
Child Hit By Car Dies
A ten-year-old girl on the city’s southwest side was struck by a car while walking in along a dark street Tuesday night with a friend. The driver of the car, who is fully cooperating with police, said he swerved to avoid hitting them on West Thompson Road. He did, however, strike one of the kids and waited for police. The girl was transported to Riley Hospital for Children where she died from her injuries. This is being called a terrible accident. Speed, nor any substances are believed to be involved.
School Grants Wish Of Dying Two-Year-Old
A two-year-old girl fighting a rare and deadly cancer is officially a “big girl”. Ava Parker became an honorary student at Liberty Early Elementary School on Tuesday. Parker’s parents say her days are numbered but more than anything, little Ava wanted to ride a school bus and go to school. Parker’s wish came true when she got to spend a half-day playing, coloring and making crafts with other pre-schoolers.
McDonald’s Leaving Riley Hospital
Riley Hospital for Children is parting ways with McDonald’s. The fast food giant has been a part of the hospital for several years, but will close its doors at the end of December. Riley is severing its relationship with the restaurant to comply with food guidelines set up by non-profit organization “The Partnership for a Healthier America”. Last year, Riley joined the ‘Partnership’ which also instituted a ban on sugary beverages earlier this year.
Bisard DUI Trial Date & Imprisonment Location Set
Former IMPD Officer David Bisard will be back in a courtroom early next year. His new trial date has been set for January 14th. This trial will cover his drunk driving arrest in April. Bisard was also assigned to prison in court on Tuesday. He will serve his 13-year prison sentence for the 2010 drunk driving crash that killed one person at the New Castle Correctional Facility.
More Than 200 Rabbits Removed From Home
Want a fuzzy new friend? Indianapolis Animal Care and Control is trying to find homes for more than 200 rabbits confiscated from a house on the city’s south side. Officials say the animals were living in cages described as “atrocious” in an unheated garage. Three turtles and an injured goat were also taken from the home after a tip came in through the Mayor’s Action Center.
Budget Deal Could Be Signed Today
The U.S. Senate is poised to approve the bipartisan budget deal today and send it to President Obama for his signature. The budget cleared a key procedural vote in the Senate on a vote of 67-33 Tuesday. The House approved the two-year budget accord last week. This bipartisan measure will avert another partisan showdown over spending when a temporary budget deal expires next month.
Teens Use Real Marijuana, Not Synthetic
More U.S. teenagers are smoking real marijuana, rather than synthetics like Spice and K2. A new survey called “Monitoring the Future” out of the University of Michigan polled high school seniors and found the number of daily marijuana users jumped from two-percent in 1993 to about seven-percent this year. Among the teens polled, seniors who used synthetic drugs dropped from eleven-percent in 2012 to eight-percent in 2013.
