Wine & Dine Wednesday event poster with "The Black Out Edition" text, hosted by Karen Vaughn with music by DJ King on July 15, 2026 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 475 Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis.

Love to see Black women taking a stand and Jill Scott has never been any different. When asked if she would grace the cover of Essence  magazine, she’d love to be a cover girl… under one condition. That her natural hair be shown.

The “A Long Walk” singer is fresh off Jay-Z’s Made in America show and just released the October 2012 cover not too long after with Editor-In-Chief Constance White.

She told TheYBF:

This is the simplest form of myself. I look in the mirror and it’s like, ‘Hey, there you go. What’s up, girl?’ For me, hair is an accoutrement. Hair is jewelry. It’s an accessory. Tomorrow I may want a wig down to my butt and I’m gonna rock it, and the next day I may want a big Afro and I’m gonna rock that too…”

October is a good month for her as she’s also in Lifetime’s remake of Steel Magnolias airing October 7 at 9P ET.

Well you go ahead Jill :)
