He’ll get a look-see from the Seattle Seahawks and Coach Pete Carroll, who has been assessing available and experienced wide receivers. In 2010, Mike Williams returned after a two-year absence from the NFL. On Sunday, the team created a vacancy when it cut Antonio Bryant after 10 days. Last week, the team signed Braylon Edwards.
At 38, Owens has had a tough time of it since he last starred in the NFL and the “T.Ocho Show.” He had anterior cruciate ligament surgery in April 2011 and has had personal and financial problems. Last October, he held a workout for NFL teams and none showed up. Earlier this year, he spent four months with the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League before being cut for a “lack of interest.”
It’s easy to forget just how much talent Owens had, though. He is tied with Randy Moss, now back in the league with San Francisco, for the second most receiving touchdowns in NFL history. He has played for five teams, most recently Cincinnati in 2010. He caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games that season.
Owens initially tweeted a denial of the report that he was headed to a Seattle tryout but has since deleted the tweet. The Seahawks confirmed the report.
