White sentenced on felony convictions

(Noblesville)  —  Former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White will not serve any time behind bars after being convicted of six felonies but instead will serve one year of home detention.  White was found guilty of voter fraud for using his ex-wife’s address to register to vote because he didn’t want to lose his position on the Fishers Town Council before being elected Secretary of State.  The Indiana Supreme Court will hear arguments next week to decide who should finish the term of Secretary of State. Governor Mitch Daniels appointed Jerry Bonnet as the interim Secretary of State, however, Democrats want Vop Osili, who lost to White in 2010, named to the position.

Morris offers apology to Girl Scouts

(Indianapolis)  —  Indiana State Representative Bob Morris of Fort Wayne is apologizing to the Girl Scouts, but says he will not take back his comments calling the Girl Scouts a “radicalized organization” which supports a pro-gay and pro-abortion agenda. Morris  issued the apology in a letter to the “Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.” Earlier this week it was reported that Morris based his comments on internet research he had conducted and refused to sign a resolution in the House celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. His statements resulted in national attention and ridicule from members of his own party at the Indiana Statehouse.

Santorum makes it to the Indiana ballot

(Indianapolis)  — The Marion County Board of Voter Registration board member Cindy Mowery has re-certified Rick Santorum allowing him on the ballot with the needed 500 signatures. Santorum initially was eight signatures short of the 500 signatures needed in Indiana’s 7th District when he filed for Indiana’s May 8 primary. Currently Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, is ahead national polls over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and U.S. Representative Ron Paul of Texas for the GOP presidential nomination.

Father of drowned toddler speaks out

(Indianapolis)  —  The father of a 1-year-old boy who drowned at a northwest side church is speaking out about his son’s death. WRTV Channel 6 interviewed Juan Cardenas who says he is struggling with the loss of his son. “There’s not any good explanation for that. To all the parents out there, you are not going to find any good explanation when your son is gone,” Cardenas said. “I don’t wish any of the pain that I’m going through right now on any of the parents out there.” Workers at the Praise Fellowship Assembly of God Church found the child floating in about two feet of water in a baptismal pool Wednesday afternoon.  The toddler was taken to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later. Further investigation has uncovered that the Family and Social Services Administration had issued 18 health and safety citations last November against the church including failing to do employee background checks, having expired food and baby formula and dirty cribs.
