    • Take the initiative to introduce yourself to the man. If you find yourselves in the same environments often, stick to casual hellos the first several times.

    • Get to know him as a person–as a friend–before showing any interest in taking things to a different level. He’ll feel more comfortable knowing you’re just a nice, genuine person who would like to be his friend.

    • Ask questions to learn more about him. Ideas include what lead him to be at the same place you are, what his music interests are, if he saw the latest movie everyone is raving about, etc.

    • Use body language that is direct, but comfortable. Face him while you’re talking with arms unfolded. Maintain eye contact. These details show your attention is directed at him.

    • Reduce the space between the two of you as you get more comfortable, making your intentions a little more personal. Eventually, tell him your feelings and that ask if he would be interested in going to dinner or to an activity with you in the near future.

    • Give him several dates to become comfortable around you before you make a decision about continuing to date. It may take him longer than average to warm up to you.

    • Let him get to know you more. Encourage him to ask you questions, but also feel comfortable sharing information about yourself.
