House Speaker Paul Ryan is retiring from Congress.  The Wisconsin Republican announced that he’s not going to run for re-election, meaning his career in Congress ends at the end of the year.  Ryan stressed that he has no regrets despite taking the Speaker’s job reluctantly in 2015. Speculation is already heating up over who will replace Paul Ryan as the House Republican leader.  Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California and Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana are seen as the most likely to replace Ryan.  There are growing concerns among Republicans that they could lose control of the House to Democrats in November’s midterm elections.
